Practical Application Examples
When you have access to world experts, industry leaders, and world-class tools, you can achieve just about anything. Check out our Case Studies to see how we’ve used prediction with precision to harness uncertainty and turn it into powerful game-changing information.
COVID-19 Projection
Rapid Projections to Predict the SpreadThe most relevant existing models to predict the spread of the COVID-19 disease were based upon those for influenza, but this class of models had many incorrect assumptions embedded in them. The goal of the PPI work was to enable rapid turn-around of many projections (at the state, regional, and county levels), with daily updates, to predict the rate of spread of the disease.
Optimal Design of Experiments
NASA’s Orion Program – Arc Jet Testing CampaignPredictionProbe proposed a Design of Experiments (DOE) based test matrix to provide coverage of more relevant flight conditions, with adequate reproducibility estimates; significantly reduce critical uncertainties; and produce a set of new data that would estimate the vehicle TPS reliability to show that the target reliability requirement would be met under most conditions.
SCaN – Decision Support System
Real-Time Predictive Space Communication SupportThe Space Communication and Navigation Network has a complex system of satellites and antennas which are mission critical for many operations around the globe. Therefore, ensuring communication redundancy and real-time decision support for NASA’s Scan Team could only be accomplished through the advanced capabilities of PPI’s Predictive Technology.
SCaN – Reliability Assessment
Communication is Mission CriticalThe NASA SCaN Network consists of many assets such as ground assets, in-space assets and even remote assets (e.g., mars rover), all organized under three divisions of SCaN: i) the Deep Space Network (DSN), ii) the Near Earth Network (NEN) and iii) the Space Network (SN). The technical objective of this effort was to demonstrate how PPI’s Technologies can be used to assess and quantify the reliability of NASA’s SCaN Network and to create a comprehensive capability for variety of issues including sensitivities, repair planning, resource allocation, etc.
SCaN – Cost of Uncertainty Assessment
Ensuring Affordability for Mission CriticalDue to the mission critical nature of the Space Communication and Navigation satellite dishes, ground structures, antennae, power generation, etc. and the degraded reliability of a system under duress, repair, or failure, this effort demonstrated and exemplified the impact of uncertainty on aging, failed, and damaged equipment and its overall impact on the SCaN systems through multiple comprehensive simulations and demonstrations.
Orion Real-Time Decision Support Tool
Real-Time Reliability AssessmentThe heat shield of a space vehicle, also known as the thermal protection shield system (TPS), is a vital element and can make or break a successful NASA Space Mission. This effort focused on the development of a user-friendly, real-time executing tool that can be used to enable rapid, risk-informed decisions by non-engineering users, without the assistance of software specialists. The key objective of this effort was to develop and demonstrate a probabilistic-based decision support tool for real-time reliability assessment of the Orion TPS for various trajectories and relevant conditions using PredictionProbe’s (PPI’s) SPISE® Software.
Orion TPS Reliability Assessment
Thermal Protection Shield System DesignThe proper design of a space vehicle heat shield, also known as the thermal protection shield system (TPS), is crucial and can make or break a successful NASA Space Mission. The key objective of this effort was to determine the optimal thickness of the Orion TPS with limited impact on the total vehicle weight yet maximizing reliability for ensured mission success through design of a customized, user-friendly probabilistic-based real-time decision support executing tool that can be used to enable rapid, risk-informed decisions by non-engineering users, without the assistance of software specialists.
Optimal Resource Allocation Process
The Right Mix of Value and PerformanceThe heat shield also known as the thermal protection shield system (TPS) can make or break a successful NASA Space Mission. The key objective of this effort was to define the most cost-effective investment strategy related to improving the accuracy of the Orion heat shield reliability assessment process through design of a customized, user-friendly probabilistic-based real-time decision support executing tool that can be used to enable rapid, risk-informed decisions by non-engineering users, without the assistance of software specialists.
